Winter is a great time to plan home projects!
Well, the groundhog said there would be six more weeks of winter and this February has proven to support that prediction. Many areas of the country are experiencing below zero temperatures, making it a tad difficult to enjoy being outdoors.
So, what to do with your time indoors?
If you and your family are looking at your home thinking that maybe it is time to address that outdated bathroom, or add some new living space in your basement, winter is the perfect time to do your “homework” on initiating these types of changes for your home. Thanks to technology there are vast opportunities to research design ideas, products, and trends. One can spend hours scoping out sites like Houzz, Pinterest, and Instagram looking for inspiration.
Perhaps the first place to start home project “homework” is figuring out what IS and IS NOT working for you in the space you want to change.
Getting clear on what functional outcomes you desire that can improve your living conditions will help steer you to more refined searches for design and construction information and ideas. One resource that can help you with this endeavor is our guide “How to Work Successfully With Your Spouse/Partner on a Building or Remodeling Project”. It will take you through the questions you should ask when trying to plan space and design changes in your home. The guide can also be used by other family members, which could provide different perspectives on the priorities for how the space needs to be used.
So, maybe some of that TV binge time this winter could be borrowed for starting some work on creating a plan to enhance your home and lifestyle!
